SSOOOK Full-Cover Dog Car Seat Review: Washable Comfort for Small Dogs

The SSOOOK Full-Cover Dog Car Seat is a supportive, washable option for a small dog that wants more visibility than a closed kennel provides. Its firm padded walls gave Louie room to sit, lean, lie down, and look outside without standing inside a hard-sided crate. However, its large footprint and separate assembly steps are important to consider before buying.

This review is based on the SSOOOK Full-Cover Car Seat, product code SO-TR003. The brand describes it as an arched car seat with an expanded interior and a double roof cover.

Why We Switched From a Kennel

Louie is a 6.6-pound Yorkshire Terrier. He had used a kennel as his car seat since puppyhood and remained calm inside it for a long time.

As he got older, he became more interested in watching the road. He cried when the kennel door was closed but stood for much of the ride when it was left open. I wanted a setup that allowed him to see outside while also giving him padded sides to lean against.

The SSOOOK seat worked better for that purpose. Louie could sit upright when he wanted to look around and then lower himself against the side cushions when he was ready to rest.

Full-Cover Design and Supportive Walls

The most noticeable feature is the enclosed, heavily padded structure. All four sides maintain their shape instead of collapsing when a dog leans against them.

The padding felt soft enough for resting but firm enough to support Louie during normal turns and stops. The surrounding walls also created a more defined resting area than an open booster-style dog car seat.

The roof includes different coverage options. It can provide more enclosure when a dog needs fewer visual triggers, while still allowing the front area to remain more open than a traditional kennel.

This structure should not be treated as proof that the seat is crash-tested. Buyers should check the manufacturer’s current installation and safety information and use the included tether only with a properly fitted harness, not a collar.

Assembly Process

The car seat arrived with the cover and inner cushions separated. Assembly was straightforward, although it required more work than opening a ready-to-use booster seat.

  1. Insert the correct cushion into each of the four side sections and close the zippers.
  2. Position the bottom panel and close its zipper.
  3. Place the waterproof inner cover inside and fasten the snap buttons.
  4. Insert the removable bottom cushion.

The U-shaped cushion required the most attention because the ends had to be pushed fully into the corners. Once assembled, the seat held its shape well and did not look loose or uneven.

Washable Covers and Waterproof Lining

The removable cover is one of the strongest reasons to consider this model. The main components can be separated by reversing the assembly steps, making a deeper cleaning possible after extended use.

A waterproof inner cover protects the cushion from minor spills, wet paws, and surface dirt. However, there are two small openings where the internal safety tether hardware connects to the main body.

Because liquid could potentially pass through those openings, the waterproof layer should not be considered completely sealed. A major urine accident may still require disassembling and washing more than the inner liner.

M-Size Fit in a Honda CR-V

Louie’s weight suggested that a small size might provide enough basic sitting space. I chose the medium because I wanted him to have room to stretch his legs and lie on his side.

The medium seat fit on the front passenger seat of our Honda CR-V, but the base extended slightly beyond the seat cushion. I used a latex pad to create a more level surface in my personal setup. Buyers should follow the product and vehicle instructions rather than add padding that could interfere with secure installation.

The seat can also occupy a large portion of a rear bench. Two adults would have limited space beside the medium car seat in our vehicle, so families should measure the available seat width before choosing a size.

Front Seat Versus Back Seat Installation

Although I tested the seat in the front passenger position, that placement should not be interpreted as a general safety recommendation. The CDC advises keeping a dog riding on a vehicle seat in the back seat with a harness attached to the seat buckle.

Before installing any dog car seat, check the vehicle manual, airbag warnings, product instructions, tether length, and whether the base sits completely supported on the vehicle seat. The safest practical position may differ according to the vehicle and restraint system.

Optional Canopy for Sun and Visual Triggers

I also installed the canopy because we frequently drive in strong sunlight. The angle was slightly awkward at first. Raising the headrest and making the passenger seat more upright improved the positioning.

The canopy was most useful for reducing Louie’s view of passing vehicles and movement outside. It did not completely block his view, but it limited enough stimulation that his barking noticeably decreased during our drives.

This accessory may be useful for a small dog that becomes overstimulated by traffic or needs shade. A dog should still have sufficient ventilation and should never be left alone in a parked vehicle.

Who This Dog Car Seat May Suit

  • A small dog that dislikes being fully enclosed in a hard kennel
  • A dog that likes to sit up, lean against a wall, and then lie down
  • An owner who wants removable, washable fabric components
  • A dog that may benefit from an optional visual barrier
  • A vehicle with enough seat width for the selected size

Who Should Look at Other Options

  • Owners who need a compact seat that leaves room for multiple rear passengers
  • Anyone who wants a product that arrives fully assembled
  • A dog that needs a verified crash-tested carrier or restraint system
  • A vehicle seat that is narrower than the product’s complete base
  • Owners who do not want to remove several cushions for deep cleaning

Final Verdict

The SSOOOK Full-Cover Dog Car Seat worked well as a comfortable travel space for Louie. The firm walls supported his body, the medium size allowed him to change positions, and the optional canopy reduced some of the visual stimulation that triggered barking.

Its best features are the supportive full-cover construction, removable covers, waterproof inner layer, and flexible level of enclosure. Its main drawbacks are the large footprint, initial assembly, and the need to check carefully whether the selected size fits completely on the vehicle seat.

Measure both your dog and your vehicle before ordering. Comfort matters, but secure installation, rear-seat placement when possible, and a properly fitted harness should remain the first priorities.
