🦷 Louie is an adorable 17-month-old Yorkshire Terrier. Of all aspects of his health, dental care is our top priority—because I believe a dog’s teeth play a huge role in their overall lifespan. Their teeth are so close to the brain that it feels even more crucial.
Louie brushes his teeth every day, using a Curaden toothbrush. We use two kinds of toothpaste: one time with Virbac, and another with Black Sheep Organics. In this post, I’ll share the pros and cons of the latter—and explain why I recommend it.
🐾 Black Sheep Organics Dog Toothpaste – Packaging & Features
Unlike regular dog toothpastes, this one comes in a unique jar. Make sure to read all the information printed on the container.
✨ Product Features:
-
Organic toothpaste for pets
-
Made with chemical-free, safe ingredients
-
Removes bacteria and plaque with natural components
-
Helps reduce bad breath with nature-derived flavors
📦 Unboxing & Benefits of Black Sheep Organics
When first opened, the jar is sealed with foil. Once removed, you’ll see a clean white paste inside.
✅ Key Benefits:
-
Natural & Organic: Made only from safe organic ingredients like coconut oil, calcium carbonate, vegetable glycerin, and organic peppermint essential oil.
-
Cleans Well: Helps reduce plaque and tartar buildup.
-
Fresh Scent: The natural peppermint scent leaves Louie’s breath fresh. He’s had dental care since he was a pup, so he’s never really had bad breath—but others always say he doesn’t smell at all.
※ About vegetable glycerin: It’s generally safe for dogs. Usually extracted from coconut or palm oils, it’s used as a moisturizer or sweetener. Personally, I don’t avoid it unless I don’t trust the manufacturer.
🛠️ Preparation & Downsides of Black Sheep Organics
This isn’t a tube-type toothpaste, and it doesn’t come with a spatula—you’ll need to prepare your own.
❌ Potential Downsides:
-
Higher Price: It’s pricier than average, which may feel burdensome if you use it daily.
-
Adjustment Period: Some dogs may take time to adjust to its natural taste, especially if they’re used to sweeter or flavored pastes.
※ Louie actually loves brushing his teeth, so he adapted right away.
🌡️ How I Store the Product
The toothpaste has a 24-month shelf life from the manufacturing date. Since it contains coconut oil, I wrap the jar with cling film for added protection. You might not need this if you store it in a cool place, but I keep it in the bathroom—so I do.
📸 Louie’s Toothbrushing Routine
You can see Louie using the toothpaste [in the blog video].
His brushing steps go like this:
-
Taste test (of course!)
-
Left upper and lower canines
-
Left molars and premolars
-
Repeat on the right side
-
Finish with the front teeth!
🦷 Final Thoughts on Black Sheep Organics
Louie truly enjoys brushing his teeth. He may run away at first, huffing and puffing, but the moment I hold the toothbrush with toothpaste—he locks eyes with it. His little eager face is adorable.
I think Black Sheep Organics can be a great choice for many dogs. It’s made with safe, natural ingredients that give peace of mind. The higher price and limited availability are downsides, but the benefits outweigh them.
Good oral care = a happy, healthy life for dogs. And it’s a win for pet parents too—no stinky breath during kisses!
Wouldn’t you like to try this toothpaste for your beloved pup?
Highly recommended.
