Trying Out the Nina Ottosson Wobble Bowl Nose Work Toy for Dogs

© Text & Photos by Yoo Yun

Louie is a lively 16-month-old Yorkshire Terrier. He usually stays with me in my room, but the moment someone comes home, he bounces out to the living room and never stops moving. To help Louie focus and use up his energy in a meaningful way, I gave him a nose work toy: the Nina Ottosson Wobble Bowl. Let me show you how it went.

🐶 What Is Dog Nose Work?

Dog nose work is an activity that encourages your dog to use its sense of smell. It may seem like a simple game, but it’s great for stress relief and scent development. Since it can be done indoors anytime, it’s a great go-to activity.

Louie doesn’t suffer from separation anxiety, but I still give him nose work tasks when I need to leave him alone or when the family is eating together. He also tends to gobble up treats too quickly—so the Wobble Bowl helps with that too.

💡 Why Is Nose Work Important?

  • Satisfies scent instincts
Dogs' noses are over 40 times more powerful than ours. After completing nose work, Louie always jumps onto the bed and does a little "earthworm dance" of happiness.

  • Reduces stress
Nose work provides mental stimulation, which naturally helps reduce stress.

  • Improves concentration
You'll see in Louie’s video below just how focused he becomes while trying to get treats out.

  • Builds connection
When it gets tough, Louie looks to me for support and encouragement. It’s a great bonding moment.

  • Burns energy
Dogs seem to want to burn off every last bit of energy before bedtime. Nose work is perfect for those late-night zoomies.

🎲 A Closer Look at the Nina Ottosson Wobble Bowl

It has a rounded bottom that makes it wobble around easily. You twist the transparent top to open it, drop treats in the center, and let your dog go at it. The treats come out through side openings.

After use, the lid can be removed for easy cleaning.

📸 Louie’s First Experience with the Wobble Bowl

When I gave it to him the first time, he wasn’t sure what to do—probably because of the noise. I gently showed him how it worked and encouraged him to try.

If your dog hesitates due to the sound, hold them gently and demonstrate how treats come out.

📸 Louie’s Second Try — Totally Different!

By the second time, Louie had the hang of it. You could really see the difference. Smart pups gain confidence fast!

Don’t worry too much about the difficulty level. Just choose a toy your dog finds fun. Louie owns several, but the Wobble Bowl is still one of his favorites.

🧠 Final Thoughts

Compared to playing with a regular toy, nose work offers better mental stimulation. Does your dog enjoy nose work regularly? What tools or toys do you use? Share your experiences in the comments!
