When Louie first came to us at just 60 days old, he was still a tiny, fragile puppy.
I wanted to feed him only the best, and after researching many brands, I chose
Stella & Chewy’s Freeze-Dried Puppy Dinner Patties.
Here’s why we loved this food so much—and why I think it’s a strong choice for anyone with a growing pup.
Why Stella & Chewy’s Puppy Dinner Patties?
Out of all Stella & Chewy’s product lines, the Puppy Dinner Patties are designed with growing dogs in mind.
They’re made using a freeze-drying process that locks in freshness and nutrition without high heat.
What is Freeze-Drying?
It’s a method that quickly freezes fresh ingredients and removes moisture under vacuum.
This helps preserve the taste, nutrients, and texture.
Key Nutritional Benefits
-
High-quality protein from turkey
-
Rich in vitamins, minerals, and L-carnitine (supports energy & growth)
-
Easy to digest—ideal even for picky or sensitive pups
-
Comes in a convenient resealable zip bag
Package Design & Feeding Tips
The front of the bag has a clear window, so you can see the patties.
The back includes feeding guidelines, but remember—every dog is different.
Observe your dog’s poop texture rather than overfeeding, which is a common mistake with freeze-dried food.
Because freeze-dried meals are highly absorbable, they result in smaller stool volume.
Verified Nutrient Information
Not everything is printed on the packaging.
I actually contacted Stella & Chewy’s U.S. office and received their full nutritional breakdown directly.
If you're ever unsure about a product, I recommend reaching out—brands usually respond helpfully.
What Does It Look Like Inside?
The color varies slightly from batch to batch.
Each bag includes a moisture absorber, so be sure to store it away from humidity.
I pulled out two patties to demonstrate how we feed them.
How We Serve It
-
Break into smaller pieces based on your dog’s size and preference.
Louie prefers small bits, so I tear them into mini chunks. -
Add warm water.
I use about 20ml per patty (a little more than the brand’s suggestion of 15ml) to ensure hydration. -
Stir lightly.
Within a minute, the water turns slightly cloudy.
I often mix in extras, but this step alone creates a full, satisfying meal.
Is It Okay to Feed Only Freeze-Dried Food?
Some worry about using only freeze-dried food due to emergencies or boarding situations.
But modern facilities now support soft or moist food feeding.
When Louie stayed in boarding for 3 weeks, he ate his pre-portioned freeze-dried meals with no issues.
Just keep in mind:
-
It can be a bit more effort to break and soak
-
Serve it quickly after adding water
Louie’s Freeze-Dried Mealtime Moments
I’ve included videos of Louie happily eating Stella & Chewy’s patties.
They show how much we’ve used this food and how well he enjoys it.
There’s even a funny moment where Louie’s sister takes a shower right when he starts eating!
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a nutrient-rich, easy-to-digest food for your puppy,
Stella & Chewy’s Puppy Dinner Patties are worth considering.
They’ve supported Louie through his early months—keeping him healthy, energetic, and full of personality.
