In a previous post, I shared how I started using dog goggles to protect Louie’s eyes.
Louie wears Rex Specs V2, and we’ve tried nearly every lens color—except purple!
Here’s a closer look at why we use them and what makes them such a great choice.
Why Louie Wears Dog Goggles
Louie is a 3.04kg small dog, and he’s very sensitive to his surroundings.
When large dogs approach us during walks, Louie sometimes barks out of fear—and I constantly worry something might go wrong.
Rex Specs offer multiple layers of protection:
-
✅ UV protection (to help prevent cataracts)
-
✅ Protection from impact or trauma
-
✅ Barrier against insects and wind
-
✅ Dust shielding on dry or windy days

Lens Colors: Our Experience & Impressions
🟡 Yellow Lens
Originally bought for night walks—but it looks great during the day, too.
It appears yellow both inside and outside. Great all-around lens.
🌸 Pink Mirror Lens
Beautiful from the outside, with a pinkish tint when viewed from the inside. It’s our second favorite.
💚 Green Mirror Lens
This one was a pleasant surprise! From the inside, it appears brown, which gives a natural view.
🔴 Red Mirror Lens
Visually striking, but too many colors show from the inside—can be a bit distracting for some dogs.
🔵 Blue Mirror Lens
Expected more brightness. It’s nice, but not as vivid as I had hoped. Purely personal preference.
🟤 Silver Mirror vs. Smoke Lens
Silver mirror blocks a lot of visible light—good only for very bright days.
Honestly, the difference from Smoke isn’t big enough to justify buying separately.
🔳 Clear Lens
Comes as a default option. Best for dogs just starting to wear goggles.
However, I personally recommend Yellow for some light filtering once your dog is used to them.
How Louie Reacts to Wearing Goggles
Louie now considers goggles a part of his walk routine.
He wears them comfortably, and the mesh top + padded muzzle area make them cozy for longer use.
In this [video], you can see how they look from behind while in use.
A Note on Year-Round UV Protection
UV rays don’t take breaks—sun protection is a year-round job.
We wear sunscreen every day, but our dogs can’t. That’s why goggles and sun-protective clothing matter so much.
