Louie is a beloved Yorkshire Terrier who has grown up with so much love since becoming part of our family. I’ve always wanted to give him only the best snacks, and for a while, his favorites were freeze-dried wagyu and chicken breast.
But recently, Louie has shown a clear preference for treats I make at home. These days, I use the L’equip food dehydrator to make most of his snacks. In this post, I’ll share how useful the dehydrator is, and why every dog-loving household should consider having one.
🍖 Why Use a Food Dehydrator for Homemade Dog Treats?
Have you ever considered making your own dog treats?
Many pet parents worry about preservatives or additives in store-bought treats—even ones that aren't clearly labeled. That’s when making your own becomes an appealing option.
Using fresh ingredients at home, you can create healthy snacks without any unnecessary extras. From meats to fruits and veggies, the food dehydrator helps transform simple ingredients into tasty, long-lasting treats.
✨ Benefits of using a food dehydrator:
🥬 Retains nutrition while removing moisture
It removes only the water while preserving essential nutrients. That’s critical for homemade dog snacks.
🍗 Use a variety of ingredients
Chicken breast, beef, sweet potato, pumpkin, apple—even milk!
Louie used to drink milk quickly, but dehydrating it lets him enjoy it slowly and in satisfying amounts.
💰 Saves money
Store-bought treats are pricey relative to the ingredients. Homemade ones cost less, taste better, and your dog will love them more. While there’s an upfront cost for the dehydrator and electricity, it pays off in the long run.
🐾 A Food Dehydrator Is a Must-Have for Dog Treats
🛡️ For health
No additives or preservatives—just clean, natural ingredients.
🎯 For customization
Tailor treats based on your dog’s preferences and allergies.
Make snacks you can’t find in stores.
📌 Dogs should eat human-grade ingredients whenever possible.
And of course, a dehydrator isn’t just for pet treats. You can use it for your own healthy snacks too!
📸 Here’s a Look at Our L’equip Food Dehydrator
I use the L’equip food dehydrator, and it’s compact and cute.
While not fully stainless steel inside, the food-contact surfaces are stainless.
⚙️ It uses a dial control and can go as low as 30°C—great for proofing dough, too.
🔗 The door has a magnetic closure.
📝 Even though it's compact, it holds a lot: I can fit 2 large chicken breasts and about 250g of round beef in one batch.
🍴 Louie’s Reaction to Homemade Treats
Louie doesn’t eat just anything, so watching him enjoy my homemade snacks is the best reward.
🍗 He had eaten this before, but when I made it again after a while, he acted like it was a life-changing experience.
🐶 What Did You Think?
Ever since I started making Louie’s treats myself, he’s been happier and healthier.
The L’equip food dehydrator lets me make snacks tailored to his tastes and needs. He truly seems to appreciate that I made them myself—his expression while I prepare treats is priceless.
Lately, Louie has even refused store-bought snacks and only wants the ones I make.
Honestly, they smell good even to me—I couldn’t help but taste a few myself.
💡 If you want to give your pup safe, delicious, and homemade treats like Louie, a food dehydrator is a must.
I hope your dog will be just as happy as mine!
